Lightup: Illuminating the Grid with Pure Deduction
The Three Laws of Illumination:
- The Reach of Light: A bulb illuminates its entire row and column until it hits a black block (a wall) or the edge of the board. Every white square must be illuminated by at least one bulb.
- The Numerical Walls: Some black blocks have numbers. This number indicates exactly how many bulbs must be adjacent to that block (horizontally or vertically).
- Zero Interference: Under no circumstances can two bulbs shine on each other. If a bulb is in the sightline of another, your logic has failed!
Pro-Deduction Tips:
- Prioritize 4s and 3s: High-numbered walls are your best starting points as they severely limit where bulbs can go.
- Mark the Impossible: If a cell cannot contain a bulb (for example, next to a ‘0’ wall), mark it immediately. Eliminating the impossible makes finding the truth much faster.
- Diagonal Clues: Pay attention to the corners of walls. Sometimes, placing a bulb for one wall automatically satisfies or blocks another diagonally adjacent hint.
