Mastering the Pomodoro Technique

ahoxy

What is it?

Invented by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique uses a timer to break work into intervals, typically 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

How to do it

  1. Choose a task you want to focus on.
  2. Set the timer to 25 minutes (one "Pomodoro").
  3. Work on the task until the timer rings. No distractions allowed.
  4. Take a short break (5 minutes). Stretch, grab water.
  5. Repeat. After 4 Pomodoros, take a longer break (15-30 minutes).

Why it works

It combats procrastination by making tasks less daunting ("I only have to work for 25 minutes"). The frequent breaks keep your mind fresh and prevent burnout.
